Guide · Agentic PIM
Agentic PIM: a catalogue that works itself, with your sign-off.
What an agentic PIM is, how it differs from a traditional PIM or a PIM “with AI”, how its agents work and when it is worth adopting.
Definition
Agentic PIMA product information management (PIM) system in which artificial intelligence agents carry out tasks on the catalogue — enriching, translating, classifying, validating and correcting product records — autonomously but under governance: within quality rules, with role-based permissions, with every change logged and with human review before publishing.
The difference from a traditional PIM is not where the data lives, but who does the work. In a traditional PIM, people fill in and check every product record; in an agentic PIM, the agents do the first 80% and people make the decisions.
Where an agentic PIM sits between your sources and your channels
Traditional PIM, AI-assisted PIM and agentic PIM
All three generations are on the market today and they are easy to confuse, because almost every vendor mentions “AI” on its website. The difference lies in who starts the work and what safeguards exist before a change reaches the shop.
Traditional PIM
It centralises products, variants, attributes, images and translations in one place and publishes them to each channel. It becomes essential as soon as you have several channels, languages or people touching the catalogue, but people do all the work: filling in fields, translating, classifying, reviewing.
AI-assisted PIM
It adds “generate description” or “translate” buttons that someone clicks, one record at a time. It saves writing time, but it is still reactive: if nobody clicks the button, nothing happens, and the system does not know which records need help.
Agentic PIM
The agents detect on their own which records are incomplete or contain errors, propose the change (a text, a translation, a category), validate it against each channel's quality rules and leave it ready for approval. People move from filling in to deciding. And because each agent acts with a specific credential and set of permissions, everything is audited and can be rolled back.
The four capabilities it must have
- Real product context: the agent works with the full record (family, attributes, channel, language, images), not with an isolated piece of text.
- Quality rules per channel and language: without an objective definition of “ready to publish”, an agent cannot know when it has finished.
- Governance: role-based permissions, configurable human approval, field-by-field history and rollback.
- Openness: an API and an MCP server so your own agents and assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, n8n) can work on the same catalogue under the same rules.
When an agentic PIM pays off
It pays off when the bottleneck is no longer where to store the data, but how much manual work it takes to maintain it: thousands of SKUs, seasons that land all at once, several languages, supplier files that each arrive in their own format, or several channels with different requirements. If you have 80 products, one language and one shop, a good traditional PIM — or even a well-kept spreadsheet — is enough.
What an agentic PIM is not
It is not letting an AI publish whatever it likes. A serious agentic PIM works the other way round: the more autonomous the agent, the stricter the rules around it. In Data by Integrafy no agent publishes without passing the quality rules, and you can require human approval by type of change, by channel or by language.

Agentic PIM: frequently asked questions
What is an agentic PIM, in a nutshell?
A PIM in which AI agents do the repetitive catalogue work — enriching, translating, classifying and correcting product records — within quality rules and with human review before publishing.
How is it different from an AI-assisted PIM?
An AI-assisted PIM offers buttons that someone clicks record by record. An agentic PIM detects on its own which records need work, proposes the changes, validates them and leaves them ready for you to approve.
Can the agents publish without any control?
They shouldn't, and in Data they can't: every proposal goes through the channel's quality rules, you can require human approval, and every change is logged and can be rolled back.
Do I need to switch PIM to get agents?
You need a PIM with quality rules per channel, a change history and an open API or MCP server. If your current PIM lacks them, the agents have nothing to build on.
What is MCP and why does it matter in an agentic PIM?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT use to connect to external systems. A PIM with an MCP server lets your own agents work on the catalogue with permissions and an audit trail.
How much does an agentic PIM cost?
In Data by Integrafy the agents are included from the Growth plan (€449/month, around 200 AI actions a day) and in Scale (€899/month, around 1,000). Every plan comes with a 30-day free trial.
